Divine Certainty

“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” ~Psalm 46:10

When we become overwhelmed with the storms of life, God beckons us to be still and know that He is God. Storms have an awful capacity to shift our gaze from God in heaven to trouble on earth. In such moments, we forget what really matters, who is really in control, and where history is ultimately headed. Our perspective becomes earthbound and altogether self-centered. Fears preoccupy us and gloomy doubts prevail.

In such moments, we need a gentle reminder of who God is. His Kingdom is not in jeopardy. His reputation is not under threat. His enemies are not about to win. There is no need to stress. God has it all in hand; things will turn out in the end. He will not allow His name and His cause to long lie in the dust.

Is your heart still this morning, or is it striving? Is your mind set above where Christ is, or has your focus shifted? Is your life caught up with Him, or is it tangled in the weeds down here?

Christian, take a deep breath and refocus on the Mighty God, your Everlasting Father. Remember that our Lord is seated on His throne, unfazed by the events that cause you and me such stress down here. He is unfazed by the events, mind you, but He is not unfazed by the turmoil in your heart. Just as a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him. He knows your frame; He is mindful that you are but dust.

Take your worries, your fears, and your doubts and lay them at His feet. Trust in His divine certainty. Stand firm in His truth. Let His peace quiet your storm-tossed heart. Remember, He is both the Alpha and the Omega; from Him, through Him, and to Him are all things. To Him belongs the glory forever and ever. Stay your heart upon Him, and He will keep you in perfect peace.
